Use the right map for the question
River gauges show current water levels. FEMA flood maps show mapped long-term flood risk. Weather alerts describe active hazards. They are useful together, but they do not mean the same thing.
Safety rule
Never drive through floodwater or around a closed road. Check official road information and local warnings before traveling.
